Amazon Wallet, Viral Chefs, and Voice Assistance

The latest in food trends, marketing, and business.

Trend Spotlight

Millennial Payment Methods

Over half of American households have Amazon Prime and use Facebook and businesses are taking notice. T.G.I. Friday’s has incorporated Amazon payment to entice young people to order takeout- and it’s working. More and more companies are switching their ordering methods and payment to accommodate millennials, inspired by Seamless and Amazon Fresh. Recently, Papa John’s even came out stating they were as much a technology business as they are a pizza business. The trend is making any type of company a technology company. Keeping this ease of payment in mind could work in donation based events for charities, and merchandise for sale on site. It's not so much a trend as a necessity.

Voice Command Trend

"Alexa, is this food waste?"

Google Home’s Alexa is partnering with Ad Council and Natural Resources Defense Council to fight food waste. The Save the Food campaign aims to cut food waste from a whopping 40% in the US. In the American home, almost half of food is wasted on the plate from both wasteful habits and time management. The campaign also used Dan Barber, celebrity chef, to surprise a foodie family with food scrap meal ideas. Homes around the US might be asking, “Alexa, are my avocados okay?” Or “Alexa, find a carrot top pesto recipe!” This is a genius way to hack an existing technology and get buzz.

Chef Spotlight

Viral Chefs

Food Network meets Youtube in a new show, "I Hart Food." The show will follow YouTube celebrity Hannah Hart from "My Drunk Kitchen" on restaurant tours around the country. Her videos online have featured the likes of Sarah Silverman and Seth Rogan and garnered more than 200 million views. The new show is an example of the power of influencers and YouTube as a platform. For reaching a younger audience, YouTube videos with high production value on trending topics are highly effective.
